Dexter's Anti-sway device
Was just on the Dexter website and saw a video on an anti-sway device that is suppose to counteract high winds causing trailer sway. The video makes it look like a good investment. Having said that its time to ask the experts! Does anyone have any experience with this device and if it works, will it eliminate the need for dual rear wheels on future TV's?

Just my thoughts after looking at Dexter's website ... more wiring will have to be run to separate the left and right hand trailer brakes. Maybe more wiring from the tow vehicle as the brakes would seem to have to actuate independent of the TV brake pedal.
Above all, this kinda reminds me of the Chevy experiment of 4 wheel steering on their pickups ... seemed innovative ... tires wouldn't last ... only 2 production years I think.

That's my feeling also. I never like to try out new ideas. I'm for letting someone else discover it it's a great new idea or a huge new mistake or just a waste of money.

Since we have a DRW TV we have no need for it. We're going to keep an eye on it. Somewhere down the road it will probably be time to trade for a new truck. If this thing works and it's cheaper than the DRW, it might be something to consider. Until that time, the jury is out until user reports come in.

We have traveled this country towing a large fifthwheel for 15 years, 10 full timing with a SRW truck. Many times we have encountered high winds, once they were blowing the steps down and we have NEVER felt the need for any sort of help. Many times we weren't aware of the winds till we tried to get out of the truck. If I were towing a large bumper pull trailer that's a different story.

When I drove a 40 foot motorhome, crosswind were a real pain. So far I haven't been bothered with my current rig

We also have never had any sway problems pulling fivers, both with SRW and DRW. Re cost between ford axles, when we bought our 2011 it was $800 more for the DRW which is not a big deal when you look at the price of a 350 diesel.

Hi
The 18 wheelers have been using differential braking built into the TV to counter act adverse sway from outside forces for about the last 6 or 8 years. They are still producing trucks that way so it must be an advantage.
By the way this same system will reduce power and apply braking when too much “tipping” tendency is present like when going around a curve at too high a rate of speed.
I haven’t driven one of these but the drivers I know haven’t commented on the system being a disadvantage.
I don’t know if it would be worth it on the electric braking system that is installed on the Montana.
