Breaker box - upside down mounting
Hello,
I just bought a 2024 381 TB High Country. I didn't notice on the walk-through, but after delivery discovered that the breaker box is mounted entirely upside down. To read the panel requires that you stand on your head. As long as everything works, I'd say okay, that is just the way it had to be. Problem is, there are many things not working properly. Hopefully, we will get it those issues sorted out. The question for the Forum is whether the breaker box orientation is affecting its function. Has anyone seen this installation orientation before?
Thanks,
Max

Labels and devices all over my Montana are positioned in all directions and both landscape and portrait orientation. Most them them are impossible to read from a normal "standing" upright position. I have found, taking a photo of the label works very, very well, as the photo can then be rotated. Also, the print can be very, very small, making it actually impossible to read, especially if its deep inside the pass-through, or something like that. Photos on my cell phone are absolutely priceless.
If you are talking about your "converter" / fuse box / breaker panel 120 volt AC box, I've never heard of installing one up-side down. It's all electronic. Except for a fan, I don't think any other electrical parts move. The position shouldn't make any difference. But .... I most defiantly could be completely wrong on this one too.

With the exception of cooling for the converter - and even that might not matter - orientation of electronics doesn't matter in the least.

I agree with above. Functionally it should not matter. More a matter of aggravation. I suppose the enclosure and mounting screw holes are symmetrical and the box can be mounted either way. But the tech must have had his head up his @ss when he installed it. Assuming the wires are adequately long it could probably just be removed and rotated and reinstalled if you were so inclined. Although it could also be that the tech wired it laying out in the wrong orientation and the wires were not long enough to rotate it. And he just installed it upside down.

MaxwellD: Can you Post a picture? This sounds interesting. I agree that it should work upside down but still?

Mikendebbiue, I would post a picture but it would probably be upside down landscape on the forum (how do you prevent that?). As it turns out, the entire converter box, fuse panel, breaker panel were in fact mounted upside down because a massive amount of wires behind it made it easier to put in that way. Our exceptionally gifted RV repairman was able to create room for the box to be mounted as it should have been and all is good at this time.

Maybe the Thread Why Are My Pictures Rotated? will help?

Upside down power box
See attached photo - my RV repairman (Shipley's mobile RV repair, Lindale Texas) did an amazing job with the correction.

Upside down box addendum
Did I mention that there were numerous other issues with this brand spankin new Montana which made me call into question the orientation of the breaker / converter/ fuse box? As it turns out, the cuplrit was a floating leg on a brand-spankin new 50 amp power cord that came with the unit. (See photo) I discovered that after days of tuning off and on the inverter, trying to get the refer to stay on. Numerous outlets on one side of the unit were dead, no fireplace, no microwave power. Batteries drained down to 10.5 and never heard converter fans. Zero support from Dealer. One-hundred percent support from Keystone to work through the issues. Then, voila! We put on a spare power cord and systems were almost back to normal within 45 minutes. You never know what you may be getting these days!

I continues to be amazed at the techniques of the Old World's Craftsmen is assembling these RVs. I take it your service guy got it rotated 90 degrees from upside down? Better, but another 90 degrees would have been sweet and made my OCD calmer.

Carl, yes - he got it turned 180 degree and it sits in there like it is suppoed to. Took him about 20 min to create some space with all the wires. It was probably about 20 minutes till 5:00 o'clock at the factory when it was installed (hahaha)

I couldn't tell the orientation from the picture. Not enough background to establish a reference. It displays as being rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise of a normal installation. Is the picture rotated?

Ok try these. The one with door closed gives a little better reference. I dont have a photo of the finished work but the door is right side up now (left side hinge) as it should be.

I have the main breaker box in my machine shop mounted upside down. I meant to mount it that way because it made wiring the shop easier. It’s been that way for over 40 years without a problem. Don’t worry about yours.

OK, the pics are before the rotation as the unit now has the door hinge on the left side??
That is what Progressive recommends. Specifically they write:
" The PD4500 series POWER CONTROL CENTER should be installed vertically (converter section down) or horizontally
(converter section to the right)."
Ref: https://www.progressivedyn.com/wp-co...al-english.pdf
I hadn't seen a left side door on the converter/power panel before. All of the ones I touched had the door on the bottom. Progress I guess.

Yes sir. The unit now has converter section with louvers at the bottom (down) - previously was at the top. In the end, I guess it was all about esthetics and not function, but I am satisfied knowing there were not other problems back there. Thanks.

The orientation is correct.......but now the breaker labels are upside down. That would drive me nuts.
That's the same hand writing as on my panel.

Welcome to the wild wonderful world of Montana issues. This is what I found in our brand new 3791RD when we picked it up 6 years ago. Same thing, battery wouldn't charge, fan and several outlets not working. various other issues. My plug was burnt just like yours, along with the shore power cord. Both were replaced under warranty by me. It was a stroke of luck we didn't have a fire. The power wire was never tightened at all at the factory. The set screw that holds the wire in place was fully backed off and jammed open.
