Jeff,
Our rigs have wheels so you can get out of the cold or heat.

We have a 15 and a 13.5 BTU in our 13 3402.We have used them all over the country in hot temps. They do a good job.

My 40', 6 slide MT with two ACs is good in SWFL. Takes a bit of time to cool down after a long day driving but is acceptable

I agree with this 100%. Gotta keep the sun off the windows entirely. Working on ours now. Started with the door. Even with daytime highs just in the 70's it got so hot it distorted the bottom rail of our Thin Shade.
Sorry about the rotation....

I think a big big heat loss is the roof of slideouts. I don't think there is much insulation there at all. I don't think the ceiling is more than 3 inches thick, so can't fit much in there.

U we’ll need 3 a/c units we have 38 ft with 5 slides also and it does not hang n 100+ Especially with high humidity even n the shade thx and happy camping

I have a 41’ with 5 slides, and live in Texas. I have a 15k and 13.5 with heat pump. My AC struggles on 95++ degree heat. If I had a do over, I would have 3- 15k units. I travel mostly in the south, so AC is extremely important. At the very least, get 2-15k units, with one heat pump. The 13.5k wont be enough. On the hottest days, and if I want a quick cool down, I use an inside stand up 12k and vent out a living room window. It really helps a lot. It’s on wheels so if its a time of year where temps are below 90, I take it out. I don't have a third ac option, so this is next best. Hope this helps.

Whichever rv you purchase, I would highly recommend having installed the Micro air easy starts on the a.c. units! You can install them yourself, as the company will walk you through the installation. They really helped with our unit, no longer experience the "hard" start!

Why would anyone be in a cold climate in the winter? That is the real question. Now SW Arizona will be getting warm soon then blazing hot even in the shade soon. I will take 3 AC's anytime over frozen pipes and solidified water pumps any time. Who agrees with me.

Kevin,
When it gets hot its time to head to the mountains. Have never found a need for 3 acs.

Hi neighbor, I live just over the state line near Lake 'o The Pines. I think the basic question is whether you use your RV for pleasure travel or to live in it full time. If you are a "traveler" and not full time, I believe 2 15k ACs will be adequate. That is what I have and we find that we only use both at the same time to cool off the trailer after we set up on a hot day. Most of the time we use one at a time. Of course where you and I live the humidity is very different from that in Arizona.
I guess I'd better be clear to say you will need at least two ACs in our heat and humidity, and probably 3 if you are living in your RV in this area, but 2 will do for most pleasure travel. Just my opinion and experience.

I also believe that heat pumps do not put out as cold of air as a real air conditioner. And the efficency of both is worse when sitting in the direct sun (which with roof mounted units is pretty much all the time!).
