Heater
I have a 2020 3761FL. Is the 2nd thermostat for the bedroom supposed to control heat in addition to A/C or is there just one source of heat using the thermostat in the kitchen area?

The thermostat in the Kitchen is the only one that controls the heat. The bedroom may have a heat display but it is not connected to anything.

This is a very valid question and is asked OFTEN. Looks like Keystone could find a way that the HEAT display not be shown on the thermostat it doesn't function on.

In our case, it's a Dometic issue. The thermostat is smart enough to find the Heat Pump in the LR and will display that mode when found, but not smart enough to find there is no furnace in the BR.

We tried the heat pump and it works better for warming the bedroom and doesn’t use all of the gas.

Yes the HP works pretty good but you won't get much love from it after the outside temp drops below 40F.

I've been able to get good service from the heat pump by supplementing it with a small ceramic heater near the return. Warmer return air has made the heat pump work well into the 20's.

Good to know. Do you suppose that some of that comfort you experience is actually coming from the ceramic heater? When we full-timed in our 2018 3791RD we preferred to just use a couple of the electric heaters (oil filled and ceramic) instead of running the HP due to noise level.

I'm sure some of it was. The heat pump is in the rear on our rig and circulates the heat through the rest of the living area. I have wireless thermometers in the underbelly, basement and garage. Even when outside was in the 20's, the underbelly stayed above 40 without using the furnace. The heat pump is essentially just circulating the warm air, but I have noticed without the ceramic heater the heat pump will freeze up and not produce any heat.
I spent 3 weeks in upstate WV from Thanksgiving to almost Christmas and only used 5% of 1 30lb cylinder of propane. We had days with 10 below wind chills.

3761 FL ~~ BR thermostat controls HP and rear AC. Downstairs thermostat controls furnace and LR AC.
HP and FP keep us toasty to about 36

I have never lived where we could use a heat pump (too cold of climate), so our new 2021 3230CK will be our first experience. I’m finding this to be an informative thread. Out of curiosity, what is the current draw on the HP versus an AC? We will have Super Solar and curious about the battery life vs furnace.

The amp draw for the heat pump will be very similar to using the A/C. The heat pump is essentially just running the unit in reverse. Heating the inside air & cooling the outside air instead of the other way around.

Years ago I took an entire course solely on heat transfer. You cannot make cold, you can only add or remove heat. It's like you can't leave a room and turn on the dark, you can only turn off the light.
The heat pump when on A/C essentially removes heat from the room and sends it outside. That's why the A/C exhaust is warm. In the heat mode the unit is taking the outside air and removing heat from it and pumping it into the room. Once the outside air is below 35 or 40 degrees the heat pump cannot efficiently get any heat out of the air so it stops heating the room. I once left mine on while I was away and the temp dropped and when I returned the unit had iced up trying to run. Fortunately it didn't break anything. like getting blood out of a rock.
BTW, since my HP is ducted into the main A/C ducts I get heat all the way up to my living room. It is a bit loud though.
