Lug Nuts
Just wondering what stainless lug nuts to buy for my 3402. The current lugs are rusting.
I did a search but only hundreds of non lug nuts threads came up.

My 2013 lug nuts were rusted at 6 months they are still rusted new ones are expensive and Keystone says tough luck.
Google stainless steel RV lug nuts and take your pick You can get the them on Amazon

Do not buy stainless steel lug nuts!!!
You forget to use anti seize one time and you may not ever get the nuts off again. Thats why trailers cars trucks never come with them. If you have a problem with steal you can cut them off
Stainless will kick your butt and may never come off. Stainless doersn't like heat ether. Get them hot and they like to weld themselves to the threads.

Slow Hand is right. Stainless threads are subject to galling, and when they do you'll play h**l getting them off.

Not all stainless steel is the same. I'm pretty sure they are not going to use a soft stainless steel alloy on lug nuts that will cause the threads to fail. Also, under no circumstances should you use any lubrication on lug nuts, no oil or anti seize, as using a lubricant will cause the nut to be over tightened and you will have broken studs. I would recommend talking to the lug nut suppliers about a guarantee that the nuts will not fail under normal use if there is a concern about using them.

Last time I looked the outside she'll was stainless, but the actual lug nut was normal steel.

Anti seize is used all over in the automotive industry. believe it or not. It helps get a better torque reading when you tighten stuff up. I have always used it on my lug nuts and never had a failure nor a nut that loosens up. It's not really a lubricant like oil or grease. They use it on head studs and things that require a good torque.
There is different types of stainless thats for sure. However I wouldn't use stainless anywhere. I have some stainless and found out the hard way to be careful when you use them. You can use stainless on stainless without much of a issue but stainless on steal doesn't work. When you torque a bolt or nut heat is generated on the threads. That is what kind of welds the stainless and steel together. I also never use stainless without anti seize.

I agree stainless steel is a very poor choice for lug nuts. I’ve been in the Machine shop business for over 50 years. SST will gauld. The way I describe it is it isn’t slick. Regular carbon steel is a much better choice for lug nuts. If I wonted SST lug nuts I could make a set in a few hours. I Already have 7/8 hex 304 SST but I don’t because I know carbon steel is better.
There are different grades of stainless steel. Simply put the 3 series, 303 304 and and others wont stick to a magnet the 4 series 420 416 will stick to a magnet and to some degree rust. 416 is the grade you make rifle barrels out of the you have the 5 and 7 series that you don’t see much of.
Then why do people make make lug nuts out of SST? Because people will buy them.

MLH, I was in the machine shop business for 46 yrs. Started when I was 14. :-) I made and sold over a 100 sets of 303 st stl lug nuts with the snake logo on the face to Viper owners across America. No one has ever complained of galling and rusting. I agree 304 is too soft and too tough. I also agree that the 4 series will rust, especially subjected to the elements. The reason why Viper owners wanted something different, is because the lug nits on Vipers originally came from the Dodge minivan, which was a really cheap nut with a thin chrome metal casing, and they looked like garbage, and did not hold up. The new SOB 5th wheel I am getting has chrome wheel covers over the lug nuts! :-)

Vipermanden, MLH, My SS lugs are 304. Are they safe to use or should I put the OEM lugs back on?

They are soft, but tough. They will "NEVER" rust, even if you put them in a jar of water for years, but if the others on this site say they will gall because they are soft compared to the steel studs, then you will not be able to get them off, because saws and drills wear down and break against 304 st stl. Maybe with a touch of that graphite consistency anti-seize that they talked about above, would make your 304 st stl lug nuts last for ever without galling?

I am excited about these covers that cover all the lug nuts from the elements, but it means I will have to unscrew two screws each time I want to take off the hub caps.
