Generator to Charge Battery

I have recently obtained a small (1000W) gas generator. It is supposed to deliver 8.2A at 120 V. This is a low end machine so I don't know how "clean" the power is. I would like to connect it to the Monty via the power cable in order to power up the converter to charge the battery. The converter is a Zantrex 80A. Is there any chance that this will damage the converter? I realize that it will take several hours to do the job at such a low current.
