Tape and outdoors just don't mix for the long haul.
How about trying some square tubing to reset that trim back to the frame to close it all up. Clamp it down real good with some c clamps and refasten it with some self tapping screws (try to use the existing frame holes).
A person would have to look around the slides to see if the tubing would get in the way, but I don't see many choices to get that to lay flat and tight. It's probably a warm weather project too (for flexibility).
Ummm...can you tell it's been on my mind?

I get so many ideas here I won't have time to work...
