Mine came installed via the factory, This is my second trailer with LED light strips. No problems with either one. I saw a post, probably on another forum and the install was just like you want to do, Just taped into porch light. If I remember correctly, the first time he flicked the switch they did not work, he switched the wires and they worked. LED light strips can be polarity sensitive. If they don't work one way reverse the wires and try again.
