DMV Registration Fees

My CA registration cost $486 this year for the Monty. I can't figure out NV's registration fees so would anyone have an idea what my tags would cost there?

Colorado has this nifty thing called Specific Ownership Tax (in addition to the original sales tax). I paid over $1k the first two years, $900 last year; it tapers off as the value decreases.

I find this very interesting, as the renewal on our ‘05 Monte never changes, and I have been arguing this with the Colorado dmv several different times now?

I would Not consider moving to WA and the 3 counties around Seattle for vehicle registrations. Tabs for cars are based on the MSRP and do not decrease with age. This RT tax is not applied to other counties outside the zone to build an antiquated train system 30 years from now. My truck with commercial plates and trailer did get a break from the tax, but a $40K car is about $500 for just tax and a Tesla or high end auto would be double.

Arkansas has a Personal Property Tax that they apply to cars, trucks, and all types of trailers, etc. But, it's not near the amount Scottz is stating...

Virginia is another state with high personal property taxes. My county did not tax the Monty but nailed my tow vehicle for over $900 a year. My two cars were $1500. If I had been in the neighboring county the Monty would have been about $900 more. That is why I am now a proud Texan. My insurance jumped there though.

Almost makes me happy that we live in New York State (ALMOST1). Truck registration - $89 for 2 years, the 5er is $190 per calendar year but is prorated if you don't renew in Jan. This year, it was $122. Unfortunately were are taxed at the rank of #1 in the US on most everything else and why many of us have changed the nickname from the Empire to the Vampire State.

Ouch CO is high for fees. I am sitting on two more fees for a 6 year old Cadillac, $325, and my TV, $646.

There's gotta be someone from NV out there. No income tax in NV sounds real good and lots of fly fishing near Tahoe area.

I’m in Nevada and haven’t had plates on my Monty since I got my new one in 2016 (it’s a 2017). I only move it twice a year as it’s our cabin on a lake for the summer so I’ve been getting movement permits. I was going to get plates this year and it would have been a little over a grand. Needless to say I got a movement permit. It isn’t cheap in NV. On the other hand there’s no income tax and the cost of living is way less than CA.

I registered my 2018 Monty in Montana and paid a one time fee of 486.00 for a perm tag. Don’t have to pay for it again.

While Texas has no state income tax, their real estate tax is out of sight. A friend of mine who lives there pays 3 times what I do for a similar valued homes tax. That, more than covers my state income tax. Let's face it, states and cities don't operate for free and the money has to come from some form of tax. It's just that different states get it from different sources. I bet in the end, perhaps with a few exceptions, it all pretty much equals out.

Sticker shock coming...NV is higher!

https://dmvapp.nv.gov/dmv/vr/vr_esti...tioninput.aspx

NV bases the registration fees off the sales price and depreciates annually from there.

I paid $906 for my 2019 for the first year.

I ran the numbers for a 2016 with an original 65k sales price and it's about $700 and drops annually by about $75-100 if you look at the total for a 3-year registration. It stops depreciated after about 8-10 years. I forgot the equation they use, but this should get you close.
