#1 Automatic Slider would be Pullrite SuperGlide
#1 Non slider would be B&W hitches. Made in USA. Great customer service. Great history record.

Same as which is the best truck, each has it’s fans. B&W, Pullrite, Curt, Andersen, Reese Elite (I like mine), and probably others.

B and W but it weighs a ton if you tend to remove it on occasion.

Hitch
I bought this Demco to put in my previous truck and moved it to my current truck. I don’t need a slider. It is relatively light weight...take the head off the remove the base frame from the rails. It has worked well for me. Years ago I had a pull right hitch that was so heavy my son had to help lift it.

+1 for the B and W Companion. Very smooth ride and easy in/out with the factory prep.

B&W. Quality with no compromise in strength. Quiet.

methinks any discussion on the best hitch must include the pinbox and the suspension gear on both truck and trailer. Not going dispute the B&W is a good hitch or any other because, to me, its the whole package that makes the difference when it comes to ride. Every setup is different and what works for one may not work as well on another. YMMV as they say.
We have a B&W Companion and Rota Flex pinbox(OEM supplied) and RAM dually with auto level air ride rear suspension(factory option) and the OEM Montana leaf springs on the trailer. SO far no issues with chucking or vertical travel. This not to say we are going to stay with this set up. MORryde IS is planned, we are also considering a Trailair or Reese 5th airborne air pinbox.... it's our home away from home, it deserves the best(relatively speaking) we can afford. We thought about a Trailersaver air-ride hitch but we also want a useable PU bed and the TS is much heavier and harder to remove than the B&W which is already heavy but manageable. Plus the TS and the Comfortride hitch (which also a great hitch) are both very expensive which is an overall consideration for some of us on a budget but we try to make the best compromises for what funds are available.
Food for thought.

I have the old school pin box It;s just a solid connection to the trailer. I love my B&W hitch. You don't have to do a pull test to see the hitch is hooked up. There is a handle you move to close the jaws on the pin. You can't mess that up. I'm 67 and I have taken my hitch out of the truck a few times by myself. I don't like to but if I need the bed it comes out just fine. I don't have a hoist just brute force. Sure you can get a hitch that only weighs 40# but would you trust that to pull a 13,000# 5th wheel. I have literally tested mine to the max and it never failed. Why hammer a nail with a 16 OZ hammer when a 32OZ will do a better job.

Go find the hitch that is convenient for you to buy at the price you think is fair and buy it. They all do the same thing.

We have the exact same setup as Biggerview. It works extremely well but I have nothing to compare to. A small tire repair company in Madisonville ~45 miles away had it for ~$800. Was best price anywhere. We were on the way back home to install it when our local RV dealer called and made us a comparable deal on the 3791 that we were going to drive 1200 miles away to get. Things worked out that day for us.

One more B&W admirer. Had it since 2009 and two 5ers. Comes apart in two ~70 pound pieces for ease of installing/removing. Takes me about 10 minutes start to finish either way - and I'm not a youngun.

Trailer saver
I have the TSLB2H AIR-RIDE HITCH on my baby Freightliner. Used to pull a Toyhauler at 24k with a 5k hitch weight. Moved into a 3740 and the weights are about 8k less. Rides like a dream, but not ever removing it with a 1/2 inch plate on the frame and the TSLB mounted to that.

Depends on whether you have a long or short bed, OEM prep pkg for a fifth wheel hitch, want a hitch with self latching jaw with / automatic locking handle, whether you need height adjustment to provide adequate clearance between the cab and truck rail and whether you need the hitch to be easily removable from your truck bed.
I recently purchased and installed a Curt 24K hitch from etrailer with the self latching jaw with / automatic locking handle (confirms the pin is locked onto the hitch) that fits the OEM prep package. It provided the required height adjustment so I could obtain 5-6" clearance between the cab and truck rail.
The link below shows the cost / options that have already been discussed.

Our choice is a little different than others for our personal reasons. We had a Slider in our Shortbed while we could hit 90 degrees that was not enough for us as our Driveway require a baking turn if about 110 degrees with little wiggle room for back and forth. For this reason we switched to the Andersen hitch, and frankly with backing aside after pulling with it I would never return to a traditional king pin hitch.
The AndersEn hitch allow us to get to out maximum turn in our space then un hitch and re-position the truck, this also allows us to make hard turn with out dragging the tires. With a traditional kingpin hitch you should only connect straight on with the Andersen I can connect at any angle and up to a 15 degree pitch. This is near impossible with Traditional hitches.
Then there is the other benefits of the Andersen, weights only 45lbs, removes in 5 minutes which allows full truck bed use in short order even while on the road. Also at only 45lbs that help increase available payload.
As for pulling there is no more chucking of the pin making it a very quiet and non jerking ride.
Here is my parking challenge AS You can see I have a 40 RV carport That requires a tight turn. While our 38' Class A was able to make a 1 point turn the 5er is a whole different story.
