self repair cancels insurance
I patched my galley tank that was leaking. Bad move, when it started leaking again I took it in for repair. Extended warranty was invalid because I patched it myself. About a $1K mistake.

Hmmmm that's not cool....what if it was a preowned unit and some dealer/owner did it before you purchased it. Does it say that in your contract? I don't remember seeing anything like that in my contract. But there is a bunch of fine print lol lol.... That does suck though, kinda like your medical plan not paying for a doctor visit because you took Tylenol before you got there.....

There's a place after death for people who do business like this and it's not called heaven. They really appreciated your trying to save them money by repairing it yourself the first time.

was it leaking in the same spot as you repaired? if not, whats the problem with them. I would pursue it farther with them if it was a new crack away from where you repaired the first one your repair should not be an issue. Like steelpony said, what if it had been repaired prior to your ownership? Did they inspect the unit before you put insurance on it?

I have to find the plastic card if it is still in my truck. I am in Utah, the Monty is in Montana with all the other paperwork.
Service guy said that since I tried to patch it myself, it was a pre-existing condition and invalidated the claim.
Good info to know for those of us that purchase extended warranties. I have my doubts of their value anymore.

Did you contact the extended service company yourself? If you trust the service guy, that is fine, but personally, I would want to hear the denial from the horses mouth. His definition of a pre-existing condition sounds like it is bogus and may be his position and not the position of the company. I would be even more suspicious if there is a fixed allowance for the dealer from the extended plan versus their "usual" markup price and he is trying to gouge you a bit?

The service guy is not the warranty company. The repair facility did not even have to mention it had been patched. In our several cases it was just a phone call to the warranty company describing the problem and the cost to repair. Sounds like the repair facility did not want to deal with the warranty company many repair facilities do not as the warranty company will determine the cost and labor. You might want to call the warranty company and ask then what their experience has been with this repair facility. The holding tanks are covered. The facility is working you. If they would TELL the warranty company it was prexisting there would be a good chance it would not be covered. You need to talk to the warranty company yourself. I had told them we made a temp repair till we could get to a repair facility...no problem .

good advice, I will contact the warranty company. Maybe get some money back.
This is why I have a dislike for extended warranties and mail-in rebates. They are so willing to take money but tough as nails to get any back..

I agree with Dick!
Give 'em some "free advertising" & help fellow MOCers avoid a "business" that treats it's customers as you described.

I agree with Rich. I really don't understand why they would care if it was patched first, and like was said you can always say it was done to get you to a dealer. I could see it if you did something to make it worse to a point it could not be repaired instead of replaced. But I doubt they were gonna patch a split tank and I doubt anything you did could make it worse to a point they would not be able to patch it even if they wanted too.
