RV Insurance question, and your opinions
We have RV (and everything else) insured with State Farm now.
Good Sam sent Sue a quote for insuring the Montana, they have a provision that allows a much lower rate if it is parked for a period of time with non use. State Farm does not offer this.
Any of you have Good Sam and how do you like it compared to other insurance companies?
I noticed they have an option of full replacement coverage of totaled, or stolen, I will check that cost.
I, like many of you folks have added things, I wonder if you could increase coverage to cover some of that option cost??
Thanks,
Ozz

I too have my coverage with Progressive for less than $800.00 per year. Good Sam and Camping World use GM and they are way higher than what I have. I have my 3650 listed at full book and I feel I should be alright if I have a loss.

I also have Progressive, after shopping around I found them to be very competitive, less than $800.00 per year. I had an accident in 2006 and my trailer was totaled. They were very good to work with and did everything they had commited to provide. I am still with them on my new trailer.

By the way, I had full replacement coverage, and it paid off. I also have full replacement coverage on the Montana.

Remember way back when. I had that little mishap where my friend raised my tailgate as I was pulling out from under the Hanna. Well, that made my second "moving" accident and I'm not going to even quote what my progressive insurance is. I have to wait at least 3 years before it will go down.
Good Sam has a provision to not charge for insurance if you are not using your trailer, so I've heard.
Good luck.

Ozz,
You ask a very good question. With all the mods you have done, a "replacement cost" policy may or may not cover the improvements. With most 'property' policies, replacement cost is usually defined as replacement with like kind and quality. That is not necessarly true of an auto or RV policy. The only way to know for sure is to read the endorsement. I read these all the time for a living, so if you want to get me a copy, I will be happy to give you my opinion.
There are a host of reasons that I have given before to have a specialty RV policy. The last one I think was a post by Randee for his vandalism. PM me if I can help.

Thanks everyone, I will dig up our policy and see if I can compare the two. Ken, if I get lost in the paperwork, I will take you up on your offer.
I am surprised that no one that has responded is with Good Sam insurance, I would think that company would be really involved with our group.

Jim, I have the GMAC through Good Sam for just under $800. I don't find any reference to "improvements" but there is a clause about contents that might cover most of your "add-ons". Bob

Jim: I've received those Good Sam ads since I've been a member and have called them several times to check rates. They are always much much higher for Kansas. I'm covered by Explorer Insurance - had coverage under Farmers but discovered so many things not covered so went with an RV specific policy. For Replacement it only covers the unit, not any improvements (to include things like Television and recliner chairs). These had / have to be added separately as do the slide covers. After 5 years age on the unit it changes to purchase price vs. replacement.

Thanks Bob and Skypilot
They gave me a rate of $638.00, $500 deduct, replacement cost, and $500 deductible other than collision. A $3,000 personal effects.
I love the part that drops the rate when not used, State Farm does not.

That is about half of what they (GMAC I believe is their carrier) quoted me last. My explorer insurance is about $100.00 more than that but also includes riders for awning replacement, additional coverage for washer/dryer and things like computer, and an additional amount if someone injures themselves on our campground space. Disappearing deductible as well if no claims.

We recently did a considerable amount of research before changing insurers. Although Good Sams says they have lower rates, We went with GEICO. I pay about $450 a year, have $5000 for replacement of personal effects, GAP (replacement diffential insurance), $500 deductable, and they threw emergency roadside assistance in as well. If you served in the military, everyone you speak with will thank you for your service. The most pleasant people I have ever delt with, and everyone I know who has them says their claim response and service are second to none.

We have Explorer Insurance (National Interstate) for $540 a year on our 2008 Big Sky. The insurance covers awning replacement, $500 ded. for collision and comp. It has a diminishing ded provision, provides $750 vacation expense, $100 ded glass coverage, $5000 for replacement of personal effects, total loss replacement coverage, towing/roadside labor and $100,000 vacation liability. When I previously asked the question about insurance coverage, it seemed like the information I received was that Explorer was the best value. We have State Farm for everything else, but if I remember correctly State Farm rates were higher than Explorer and they do not have replacement coverage. Even being insured with State Farm for 60 years with no accidents did not help the price.

Ozz,
American Family Ins. does not offer coverage in Texas, so if you are still thinking of settling here, you will have to find another carrier. I am sure you are aware that the same insurance company does not offer the same product in the individual states. The type of policies offered are governed by state law and different states have different laws. Neither Geico, Good Sam (GMAC) or any company writing policies in Texas will offer one for the $475 - $700 as indicated here. However, I am sure my rates will drop once I pass the 5-year mark and am no longer eligible for full replacement coverage.

Ozz We have Good Sam's insurance which is GMAC. They offer full replacement and we also added $15,000 insurance with them, for our personal things inside trailer. Also since we are now full timers they gave us a rate for full timers insurance. Which is OK.
Had to go with Allstate for our storage contents. Our little bit of personal things and furniture in storage.

If anyone is a member of AARP get a quote from The Hartford. We have an 05 Montana,2955RL and an 03 GMC HD Duramax> The Monty costs us under $400.00 and the GMC just over $800.00. Full coverage and full replacement on the Monty. I have looked around and can't find a better price. We also have two other vehicles. an 06 Ford and an 89 farm pick up, all 4 costs under $2000.00 a year. We put on a lot of miles as we live 6 miles from town and 50 miles from a city. Also live in Wisconsin, lots of Venison to avoid.
