NEW 2006 GMC 3500 D/A ALL OURS
And the Credit Union We went to look at 2pm and drove out at 6 with our new Big Brutus It is so awesome. Now we just have to add the hitch, brake controller and running boards so we are going to be busy. We traded in both of our vehicles so for the first time in our marriage we are a one vehicle family and I can't hardly get in this beast. (I haven't driven it yet but I will.) The best part is now we can GO, GO, GO! We may even make it to the Rally in Oct. We have never owned a diesel so we are looking for Diesel 101. I will print everything on here about diesels so Ed can learn. We are so thrilled. This is almost as good as getting the Monty. Steve or Glenn, I need to get my graphics side by side and can't seem to do it. What am I missing?
Happy trails......................

Congratulations on the new truck. I have to tell you I'm having "Truck Envy."
Seriously Sue you two are going to love it. The running boards will help you get in, but for me they helped me to get out a big easier more. It was such a long way down and I think Dick told me the newer ones are a bit higher than ours. They build them where he works. You'll be amazed at how the truck performs, I know we were.
Again Congratulations. Looking forward to following your Alaskan trip.

I think we just got the same truck. Never had a dually before, never had diesel and never had white. Chucks out polishing it now. It rained.

Congratulations on the new truck! I sure hope you can make it to the rally. A bit over two years ago we bought our first diesel and can relate to exactly what you are feeling after so many years of gas engines and knowing a lot about them. There are many knowledgeable people here so ask lots of questions. I did and it really helped. Also, read the manual VERY carefully, especially things like changing fuel filters, etc.
Carol and Chuck, if I read yours correctly you also have a new truck? Congratulations to you, too!

I'll agree truck envy for sure. Ours is a 1995 but still running great. Maybe we'll get a prize at a rally for the oldest truck LOL!!!

Sue, we have the pipe runningboards on ours, and even though I am near 6' tall, it is nice to be able to grab the "oh God" handle and put my foot on that and get in...
My work truck is a big 4x4 expedition, and it is naked on the outside.... EVEN I have to hike up pretty far to get in... some of my shorter staffers whine about it.. When you get the boards, you will love it..
I know I do... 'cept for that bump on the back where the extra wheels go, it looks real familiar!!!

Nice truck Sue and Ed. You will have to let us know how you like the 6 speed trans, and if you get alittle better milage than the 2005 trucks. The engine rpm should be 2 or 300 less than the 5 speeds. Have fun driven around way up there!

OK, WITH THE MONTANA 3865FL, GOTTA GET A TRUCK
THINKING FORD F350 DIESEL I HEAR DIFFERENT THINGS ABOUT AND WOULD LIKE THOUGHTS FROM THOSE OF YOU ALREADY "DOING IT":
YES OR NO:
LONG BED
4X4
SINGLE OR DUALLY
SUPERCAB OR CREW (WORRIDED ABOUT LENGTH)
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD RECOMMEND

You are going to get a lot of members who swear by Ford and a lot that swear by GMC or Chevy and a lot that are Dodge fans. Look at all of them and make your decision. GM has the new 6 speed Allison which is awesome. We like the long bed so we don't have to mess with a sliding hitch. Our first set up was a short bed, the second a long bed and now the third a long bed. We got a dually for extra durability when those big guys pass you. We also like the crew cab because not only does it provide seating for guests but lots of cargo room when on the road. Our back seats fold down. As far as 4x4 if you think you will need it or use it then yes. If you don't boondock or live in a snowy, muddy area, you might not need it. There is only 10 inches difference between an extended cab and a crew cab. You'll get more exercise with the crew because sometimes you have to park way out in the parking lot!
Take your time and look at all of them.
Happy trails..................

Wow,
Nice truck. Look forward to your postings. I'm not sure we need one but we are thinking about it. Have to see what GM does with pricing over the next couple of months.

Sue, you've got to come to the rally and show off that new dually. We're really glad that we've had one here in Alaska. It just gives us some stability on some of these torn up roads.
You also must come to the rally so that you can see all our pictures of Alaska. We've got to get you guys ready for the big trip!
