I have a couple of friends that went after is differently. One put a 50 gal tank in his bed (diesel) and a 5.5 generator to run off it. The other bought 2 3200 gas/propane generators $1000.00 each and carries them in the bed, he buys allot of propane, but can refill the gas from his 52 gal tank as needed. None of us thought of hooking them up going down the road. See what you thought was a stupid question thought allot of us something, thanks.
