It all depends on the fat content of ice cream that makes it softer or harder. The higher the fat content the softer the ice cream will be. Also if you have a dual freezer the left side of the two is the side to put the ice cream in. Also, if you put it towards the front of the freezer it will stay softer than putting it towards the back. Now if you have a residential frig, I can't help you but the above is what I have been told by the manufacturers of the RV frigs.
