When we traveled with our cat, we took out the dining chair located in the back corner and put it there. Used a rubber backed bathroom carpet for underneath it that way we could shake out easier and wash as well. When we had four for dinner we just relocated the box for an hour or two. Did this for 3 years and worked well..
