Hong Kong

It is just like we never left. All the sights, sounds and smells stirred the reservoir of memories. In the first 24 hours we traveled on the tram (street car), rode the MTR (subway), and taxied to shopping. I still knew how to move around the city.

On the first day, we ran into people we knew while dropping off laundry. Then Dianna needed to see the doctor we had used while here. Other old friends showed up while we were in the doctor's office. Seven million people and we meet people we know right off.

Each night a different family takes us out to dine at some restaurant with excellent Chinese food, places you have to have memberships to get in. We are a bit overwhelmed. Tonight we dine at the Hong Kong club.

I have a grand niece that is teaching English in Beijing. Well, she had to leave the country to re-enter under a work visa. We found her across town in a Marriott Hotel. She was soooo happy to see someone from home and that spoke English. Our hostess took her shopping. We were grateful for that because we are still jet-lagging. She has never been to Hong Kong, so we get to do a bit of tour guiding as we revisit some of the special places in and around the city.

Our view from our host's suite is awe inspiring. We can look across the harbor to Kowloon and on the side, we can see the green jungle climbing up the mountain side. What a contrast between the towering buildings and the towering trees. It is a singular joy to revisit this grand city and to see faces we love again.
