Very interesting take, DMax.
I too was interested in using them as security cameras. I read about a hack where you put a 15 amp fuse in your 7 pin connector to power the clearance lights when not connected to the TV.
Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I think I like your idea of separate wiring better anyway.
