It goes like this (from the bottom up): mattress/mem foam topper/mattress pad/sheets.
Mattress pad is critical, as the mem foam really stores heat in a hurray - bad in the summer months. A good mattress pad will buffer this tendency to build up the heat between your body and the foam.
