Just a suggestion:
Working for Terminix I found that peanut butter works, but it gets moldy fairly quickly.
Instead, I found that a short piece of Slim Jim, stuck on the trap lever, won't be licked off; won't mold for a LONG time; and still attracts the critters very well (plus you can eat the "leftovers")
