I have a 2006 Montana. Are you saying that newer Montana RVs do not have the larger water fill spout for the fresh water tank? I would think this opening would be a necessity for a trailer otherwise they are implying you'd always be hooked up an RV site with hookups.

A funnel like is described should work fine. Anyfunnel with a long narrow neck should work. You might want to mark this funnel to identify its exclusively for this use. You don't want to use that funnel for anything else to prevent contamination. In fact, I have used one for boondocking and the water container had openings that did not reach the existing spout, so the funnel came in handy. DW had one in her set of kitchen tools that worked fine.
