Searially, they are made well, I don't think it will shorten it's life much.
I change them out for a living, some have been in 20-25 years. I wouldn't be concerned.

The thermostat in our Montana allows us to run the fan only...not sure if that is just for the ACs or for the furnace only. I'll have to check that out when we set up next time...thanks, Ozz.
