I had similar problem, and the tech at the local RV sales/repair company diagnosed trouble to the gas valve. He replaced the valve, and I've not had trouble since. I asked if this was common, and he said no, except that ours was the second in a week that he had to replace. The other was in a SOB, but still same model water heater.
