The Best Route is subjective. Fast, sightseeing, off freeway exploring are the considerations that fall into the decision of best route


Here is the route we took a few years ago. While freeways are a part (hard to get across Nevada without one) we choose this route due to the availability of scenic landmarks along the way. (Flaming Gorge, Mt Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis, Devil's Tower, etc)

If the route numbers are hard to see, here is a simplistic summary:
Hwy-80 --> Hwy-24 --> Hwy-25 --> Hwy-18 --> Hwy-79 --> Hwy-161
