The majority of the burner mechanism is on the outside of the unit behind the outside vents so slides in or out don't matter. Just make sure there is decent airflow near the outside vents and you should be fine. If I can't get my unit home for a long enough period before I load it, I would go to my storage area and turn on the fridge as well.
