I've never noticed any noise when running HWH on electric. I can feel a temperature difference after running on electric for an hour.
Propane is faster in my unit, so I'll run the HWH on propane if I need hot water faster. I normally run the HWH on electric and have never had a problem. The anode rod is getting thin and will need replacing this year though.
