Since we do a lot of dry camping using an inverter, may I suggest that if you are going to use 6-volt golf cart batteries that you use four of them; put two each in series and then parallel the two groups that are in series. It depends on how much dry camping you do. Two 6-volt batteries may not be enough. Consider this: we use two Lifeline D8 batteries containing 255 ampere-hours each for our use. These keep us going very well -- as long as there is ample sunlight.

Another caution you might be aware of is that most inverter manufacturers tell you not to mount the inverter in the same bay with the wet-cell batteries.

I'm not sure I quite understand when you say "inverter/charger that is currently installed in the Monty". As far as I know, the Montana comes with a "converter" not an "inverter." The converter converts AC voltage to DC for your 12-volt use. An inverter changes DC voltage to AC for your electrical appliance use.
