Dennis, we didn't go looking for shells, but the couple that was next to us went down near the Hatteras Lite House and drove out on the beach. They had a picnic table full of shells, and some pretty big ones too. We were there in early Aug, stayed at Ocean Waves, but they should be closed now for the winter. During peak season they are less than half the price of the KOA or Camp Hatteras, but they don't have all the fancy facilities but suits us fine.
