Nothing new to add really. Certainly not a one size fits all solution. Personally, I use a reference point in the truck to line up with the pin box. She steps in, with truck in park, when I get close to make sure it's lined up. Then it's a matter of lowering/raising pin box to be slightly below the hitch. Be aware that backing up the last couple of feet can change the height of your hitch by a lot making for an unsuccessful connect.


I've hitched alone; my DW has spotted for me; she has also backed in while I spotted; and, if necessary, I think she could do it herself with a little practice and encouragement.


The key to it ... time, patience, and communication. You're retired so no more hurrying for anything. :-)
