We did it manually for years. For us it's a real pleasure to just push a button! But, like you say, it does rattle more. We have discovered if we pull it in a few feet, it tightens up and doesn't do that. If the wind picks up even more, then we pull it in further, or all the way in. If we had it screwed down, we couldn't pull it in by just pushing a button -- and that is the feature we like best. When the sun goes down we usually push the button. In the morning we push it again.
