We did something very similar. We used gorilla glue and added some screws. It is holding so far. keystones fix as we noted at the fall rally was to glue the plate .The primary case of the plate failure in our case was the [plate was not installed correctly. It was not squared to the door and the stress caused it to pull out. The ones that were correctly installed have not failed.
