To solve the door problem, I finally took the door off and had a cabinet maker trim it to 16” high. DH reinstalled it. This way we don’t lose the use of the upper cabinet. The controls are exposed all the time, but we are ok with that.
As for the corners of the bedroom slide, we bought some corner protectors from Amazon. They work well, and we leave them on all the time.
