TWO propane regulators - huh!?

Last fall on our last trip I had what I thought was an auto changeover regulator failure. I switched bottles to the roadside and went back to heat and stove use then bought a new auto regulator to install this spring. Today I wandered out to see if I should also install a new hose as well (yes) but also found that I have a second, single stage regulator of some sort on the curbside bottle line. It's located on the black iron pipe cross over to the other bottle, hoses and auto changeover regulator. This is far from my first 5er or TT with two propane bottles. Without pulling that regulator out of its almost hidden location can't figure out what it really does. Anyone else have this and if so, have a clue? I'll order a new one with that new hose but.......
