If you only had a few items in the washer, it probably couldn't balance that small load, thus causing excessive vibration. Try it with a normal load, such as several pairs shorts, a few t-shirts and underware. Sometimes it will still get out of balance and shake things, but for the most part it will balance enough to minimize the vibration.
