Yes yes do the reset to achieve a good auto level.
In preparation for hooking up I have taken to the practice of manually retracting the rear jacks then turn the controller off and on and then use the left-right buttons to return to hitch height. I can't take credit for that sequence but saw it done and it works pretty well for me.
I have seen the error you mentioned but only after doing manual adjustments after the auto-level activation.
