I had a 2006 with the same issue, but also got the dreaded engine light when it occurred. Took it to Ford, since it was still under warranty at the time, and they ended up removing the turbo and cleaning the vanes. The 2006 turbo had a variable pitch blade design that changes depending on vacuum and boost demands. The Ford tech told me that carbon and soot build up on the vains caused them to stick and not fuction as designed. Not sure if yours is experiencing the same issue or not.
