Without going through too many extremes, I don't think there is a safe spot to place items on counters. If you are simply traveling the perfect roads and interstates we have then you might get away with it for awhile.

The roads and interstates I travel are not perfect. And now that we are in construction season they are even worse. Then there are the gravel roads. If you never leave pavement disregard. The so called improved roads (gravel, etc) are better than muddy jeep trails, but barely.

I load up the sinks and place the Keurig and Crock-pot underneath the island. My old toy hauler had me replacing all sorts of lids and covers.

We all have our own madness/method.
