I planned my retirement at 63 1/2 which was 18 months exactly of COBRA health coverage before Medicare kicked in. Retirement was seamless and I brought totally undue stress upon myself just thinking about it. At the end of the day it is not about how much you make...it is all about how much you actually spend each month.
My wife is 5 years younger and neither of us EVER thought about retiring and, after we both had over 38 years into our careers it just seemed the right thing to do mentally and physically when it happened to both of us at different times.
We feel blessed and pinch ourselves every day. We are enjoying life and family to the fullest and by the way, how much $$$ do you really want to leave to your Kids?
