We live right across the lake from Canada and Canadian change is accepted at every store without notice. However the Loonies and toonis will most likely draw a .......what the heck is this.We have a bunch of them left over from trips. We throw all Canadian money is a jar and save it for the next trip.\We find it works better to take a minimum number of Canadian $$. We will change over maybe 100.00 which in our area can be had at most any bank.We use credit cards as the exchange rate if any is done with the transaction and most merchants would rather do the credit card than deal with the exchange rate....however small.
When you pay for say a dinner at the amount is of course in CA $$ when you pay by CC the exchange rate is automatic and your bill when received is in US $$.

If you withdraw from a auto teller say 50.00 you of course get Canadian $$ but the withdrawal on your statement will be in USA $$..generally...less.

Also eases the pain at the pump as the statement amount will be in USA $$$ maybe less.

Traveling in Canada is easy.Border crossings,,It is far easier to get into Canada than it is to get back in the USA....Be aware.
