Hi

We had to replace our basement floor because of rot.

The wood was 5/8 plywood and under that are aluminum cross members that are 2X2 inch theses may be 2X3 laid sideways.

At any rate you shouldn’t have any problem using 5/8 screws. If you hit one of the aluminum cross member it would probably strip the screw in the wood and all you would have to do is move it a few inches to get a good tight clamp.
