After seeing this thread, I got a little curious. We haven't had good enought weather to try out our 2005 3500RL, so I don't know how well the remote is going to work. As sort of a pre-emptive measure, I e-mailed Dometic and ask the about replacing the remote with their Comfort Control Center. Here's their response:
"You can replace your remote control with the comfort control center. You would have to replace the control board, and thermostat. Depending on the location of your reciever, you may also have to use a remote temperature sensor. Hopefully your reciever is mounted on the wall and would allow for an easy conversion. In most circumstances, you would not have to re-route wiring. Please contact us at 800-544-4881 with any concerns or questions you may have. We will gladly
