Common home type silicone is acid dry. When put on aluminum or steel it corrodes it. Automotive type doesn’t have acid in it and will not corrode steel or aluminum. I’ve put household silicone on steel and aluminum it WILL corrode it. It isn’t pretty on aluminum.
