It's been awhile since I read the manual on ours but I think it mentions what else will set off the detector. On our 3295rk the detector was right next to the water heater. Just above it was a lift up door for access to the water heater. When the WH was on propane and the wind was just right it would set off the detector even though supposedly the gas components are outside and sealed from the inside. This only happened a few times.
