8000 lb. axles - believe it or not

I am currently in the process of having new Equalizers/wet bolts/brakes being done on my unit because I had an equalizer break off. This is after close to 50,000 pulling miles. When the mechanic was ordering the parts he asked me what weight my axles are and I said 6,000 lb. as I thought only the newer units had the 7,000 lb. axles. The upgraded rubber equalizers come in either 6,000 or 8,000 lb. sizes. I asked about putting the heavier equalizers on and he told me that they wouldn't fit as they are ordered according to the distance between the axles. Either 33" or 35". He ordered the 6,000 lb. 33" equalizers. They wouldn't fit. He went out and measured the distance between the axles on the side that wasn't broken and the distance is 35", therefore requiring the 8,000 lb. axles equalizer. I mentioned that I was sure that it was stamped 6,000 lb. and he said if it was, then it was stamped wrong. I imagine this will start a thread going. Believe it or not.
