When I left Alaska I inquired about this and found out; #1: Handguns a no-no for sure, And #2: Long guns and shotguns permitted IF you have a valid reason, i.e. hunting permit or competition, however you must be able to show proof of that at the border. Needless to say, I did not cross the border with a firearm.....
