If you want a really exciting ride, rent a jeep in Silverton or Ouray and take some of the mountain jeep roads. My wife and I did that a few years ago from Silverton to Lake City and back. It is an all day trip with you going up over some really spectacular passes above the tree line. You can also have someone else drive if you prefer. Since I was driving I missed alot of the the drop-offs---my wife claims she will not got again! I guess I will be looking for passengers next time!
