The only concern with an antenna is that it is not painted with a lead based paint. Special antenna paint should be used. Color should not have a thing to do with it

Got my Consumer Reports today. Here is what they say:

"Question: Do I need a special antenna for digital TV?

Answer: Not necessarily. If your current antenna works well now for VHF (channels 2 through 13) and UHF (14 and higher) you should be fine, though you may have to adjust the antenna for the best reception. If you can get only channels 2 through 13 you will probably need a new antenna"

There was more to that report, and if anyone is interested I will scan it and post it. However, basically it states that the better the antenna the better the reception is going to be and that boosters improve your chances of getting more UHF channels. DTV is broadcast on UHF Frequencies. Also, building, trees and other structures can reduce your ability to receive a signal. (duh!)
