Sleep Number for part-time use???

We are looking at replacing our original king mattress with a queen Sleep Number. If we were full timing, I would not hesitate to do it as we have one in the house and love it. Question is for those who are not yet full timers...is there going to be a problem with it sitting through the seasons (hot and cold) in storage when not being used?
I would hate to drop that kind of $ on one only to have it not hold up due to the environment. We have been looking at good quality SOB mattresses, but our numbers are 80 and 35...hard to meet in the middle with those where we are both comfortable. It could be done but...
I am afraid of the temperpedic style for the weight as well as I get hot at night and I have read that they maintain their heat well.
