They are not asking for more trucks, what they are saying is there is a driver shortage and they will need that many more drivers.
The trucking industry does not need to or have to to ask anyone if they can add more tucks to their fleets. You have to remember everything you buy was delivered by a truck. So fewer trucks less deliveries leading to shortages at the stores.
Then everyone will be complaining about that.
