If the filter removed was plastic then it is not the filter Wix made for that engine it is a filter for a much older John Deer tractor. I had notice while working on one of the JD tractors that the fuel filter would fit in place of the filter on the 2005 Duramax owned by the same people. The difference is the JD is a 4 cylinder diesel. This would result in a much higher fuel flow and would account for the internal failure

Fortunately my dealer here in Florida is competitive with the quick change shops so I have always had the service work done by the dealer. One thing I did not let the dealer do was change the cabin filter on our Malibu they wanted in excess of $40 for a $6 filter.
